Extra Life Attends E3 2018

Extra Life is a program that unites thousands of gamers around the world to play games in support of their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

Last week we had the incredible pleasure of joining our Extra Life National team, as well as volunteers from the Orange County and Los Angeles Extra Life Guilds, at E3! This year’s E3 setup included an Extra Life Lounge where attendees could relax and recharge (themselves and their devices), an awesome photo booth, and most importantly, information on how to play games and heal kids via Extra Life. Our goals were simple and three-fold: encourage attendees to register for Extra Life, to share Extra Life via their social media accounts and to make a donation to Extra Life. We don’t have the final numbers just yet, but with almost 70,000 people in attendance at this year’s expo, we can’t wait to see how many new participants we gained in just three days!

But wait, let’s back up. What is E3?

Every year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, invites hardware manufacturers, software developers and publishers from the video game industry to present new and upcoming products to the expo attendees – this includes retailers, members of the video game press and most recently, passionate everyday gamers. From detailed exhibition booths and industry panels, to new product testing and gaming tournaments, E3 is truly the hub of all things up-and-coming in the gaming world – not to mention a phenomenal space for us to recruit new participants and spread the word about Extra Life.

Typically, a 17+ event, the Extra Life team received special permission to allow Logan Hansen, a patient here at CHOC Children’s, to not only attend, but get behind-the-scenes access to some of today’s most popular games and their developers. Logan met with the Call of Duty team from Activision, interviewed the CEO of Little Orbit – a worldwide video game publisher, and explored the show floors and all they had to offer! A game developer in the making, we know in just a few short years we’ll be visiting Logan at his very own booth at E3 (we already made him promise he would hire us)!
